The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published the new recommendations on the prevention and control of influenza for the 2010-2011 season.
The primary changes and updates include the following:
- A new universal recommendation that annual vaccination be administered to all people 6 months and older.
- For the 2010-2011 influenza season, every child 6 months through 8 years of age will need 2 doses of seasonal influenza vaccine unless they meet one of the following criteria:
- They received at least one dose of 2009 H1N1 monovalent vaccine and 2 doses of seasonal vaccine last year (2009-2010 season) - OR -
- They received at least one dose of 2009 H1N1 monovalent vaccine and any seasonal influenza vaccine prior to last year (2008-2009 season or earlier)
