Holter
A Holter Monitor is a small, portable device used to record the electrical activity of the heart for 24, sometimes 48, hours. It consists of several electrodes attached to the chest, which sends the body's electrical signals to a small piece of recording equipment attached to the patient's belt. This type of testing is useful for observing occasional heart rhythm irregularities that would not be discovered during a EKG test.
Being fitted with a Holter Monitor is an outpatient procedure and is rarely intrusive of the patient's normal, daily activities. Once the specified testing period is complete, the patient returns the equipment to
Primary Care Associates of Appleton
, and the recorded information is downloaded into the computer system and evaluated for any abnormalities. No special preparation is required prior to testing.
